Kentucky turns Kroger Field sign confusion into fun ticket promotion (Photos)
Kentucky fans who drove past Kroger Field on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning may have been a little confused.
UK’s football stadium, which was known as Commonwealth Stadium until a few months ago, is undergoing some changes associated with the acquisition of its naming rights, including new signage.

Roger Field? That’s not right.
Matt Jones from Kentucky Sports Radio wondered (joked?) if the letter ‘K’ fell off. That’s not what happened — we’ll get to that in a bit — but that didn’t stop UK Deputy Director of Athletics DeWayne Peevy from tweeting out a funny promotional idea for UK fans named Roger.
Calling all Rogers! Stop by Gate 7 at Kroger Field now before the K goes up and present your ID to get 2 free tickets to UK vs EKU on 9/9! pic.twitter.com/9dOTEKYWtc

Lucky fans with the name Roger (the last name Rogers ended up being more common) would receive two free tickets to the home game against Eastern Kentucky if they made their way to Gate 7 before the ‘K’ was installed. Genius!
About two hours later, the ‘K’ was back in its correct positioning and Peevy tweeted out that there were nine winners: one man with the first name Roger and eight with the last name Rogers.
Done. Rogers of the #BBN, your time has passed. We had nine winners: one Roger and eight with the last name Rogers. Congrats! pic.twitter.com/I8BbYDB6FX

So what happened to the ‘K’ anyway? Yahoo Sports reached out to Kentucky and spokesman Tony Neely told us the ‘K’ did not fall off. We’ll let him explain:
“The full sign is ‘WELCOME TO KROGER FIELD.’ The sign company was installing (Tuesday) and put in the letters right to left,” Neely told Yahoo Sports in an email. “When they stopped at the end of the workday, the sign read ‘ROGER FIELD.’”
Neely explained that the ticket promotion was completely “impromptu.” It ended up being a really clever and lighthearted way to get the fans involved by Kentucky. Well done.
