Was Kentucky marching band mocking Louisville scandal with money sign? (Updated)

Rivalry Week is the best part of every college football season not just for the games, but for the shade that comes with them. From the players to the fans to the in-game entertainment, there’s always an added layer of snark. Sometimes it’s subtle, other times it’s shameless.

Kentucky’s marching band might have put themselves in the latter category.

At halftime of what’s already been an extremely chippy game between the Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals, UK’s band took the form of a dollar sign and it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the BCS.

Louisville is right near the epicenter of the FBI’s investigation into college basketball, which has already cost Rick Pitino his job with the Cardinals. That investigation, in part, is looking at the role schools and shoe companies have in funneling money towards recruits in order to gain commitments to specific universities.

But according to a tweet from a Kentucky PR representative, the dollar sign was simply a coincidence and part of a routine the band had done previously in 2017. Still, it’s a funny coincidence.

When Louisville hosted College Gameday earlier this year, Pitino was welcomed on set as the show’s guest picker. Nearly three weeks later, the Cardinals were looking for a new basketball coach.
