Kent State Briefly Locks Down Campus After Shot Fired
Kent State University was locked down Wednesday evening after reports circulated of a shot being fired on campus at around 8:49 p.m. The shelter in place advisory has since been lifted.
A spokesman for the university said that police were searching for a black male in dark basketball shorts and carrying a silver handgun. The suspect reportedly fired one bullet into the ground, and nobody was injured. Around midnight, police say that they apprehended the suspect off-campus.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the shot may have been fired during an argument between the suspect and another woman.
A witness told police the man was arguing with a woman outside Bowman, KSU President Lester Lefton told The Plain Dealer. After the woman emphatically told the man, “No,” he fired the gun into the ground.
The woman darted into a nearby car and drove off. The man took off running. It is not known if either person is a KSU student.
