Kenneth Augustine found guilty in 2018 death of New Orleans East couple

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Kenneth Augustine has been found guilty of second-degree murder for the 2018 shooting of Darnisha DeSilva and her fiancé, Gregory Heisser, III.

22-year-old DeSilva and 23-year-old Heisser were brutally murdered on Oct. 9, 2018. Two of their three young children were there when their parents were shot to death.

Police said on the day of the murders, Augustine, an ex-boyfriend of DeSilva’s sister, showed up at the family’s Little Woods home.

Witnesses said Augustine and Heisser got into an argument, then Augustine left and came back shortly after, killing the couple. The argument reportedly started when Heisser did not allow him to borrow a vehicle.

Augustine turned himself in and was charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Three years after the shooting, Kenneth’s mother Barbara Augustine, and sister, Michelle Augustine, were charged with being accessories after they reportedly helped Kenneth flee the scene.

The trial, originally set for 2022, was delayed after Augustine told the judge that he was incompetent to stand trial, further extending the case and frustrating the family, according to Heisser’s mother.

Six years after the crime, the trial began on Monday, May 13 and on Friday, May 17 Kenneth was found guilty on all charges.

A date for sentencing has not yet been announced.
