(KRON) — Kenilworth Junior High School in Petaluma was on lockdown Wednesday after someone set off an explosive in one of the student bathrooms. Students and staff at the school were evacuated to the blacktop while the Petaluma Police Department investigated, according to Petaluma City Schools.

Petaluma police issued an alert around noon about the lockdown at the school on Riesling Road.

There were no injuries as a result of the explosion and students have since returned to class. The explosive was set off in a boy’s bathroom next to the school’s quad.

The explosive was first said by Petaluma police to be fireworks, but a later press release defined it as ” a commercial grade explosive device similar to that of an M-1000.”

An investigation led police to two KJHS students who are believed to be responsible for lighting the device. They were arrested for felony possession of an explosive device, felony vandalism, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
