Kendall Jenner Confirms She Didn't Borrow Feathered Tank Top from 5½-Year-Old Niece North West

Kendall Jenner‘s setting the record straight.

Although fans assumed Jenner, 23, plucked a pink feathered top out of her 5½-year-old niece North West’s closet after the supermodel was spotted wearing the same shirt four days after the budding fashionista, Jenner says that isn’t the case. While the shirt is actually exactly the same style, Jenner tells PEOPLE that she and her niece, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West‘s oldest child, both happened to buy the design without realizing the other had it.

“Oh my god, it’s hysterical. North and Penelope [Disick] I think got it before me at the outlets on the way to Palm Springs a while ago,” she says at the launch of Shaun Neff’s new oral care line, MOON, where she acts as the face of the brand, investor and co-creator of MOON’s teeth whitening pen. “I went a couple weeks later to the outlets and bought the same thing not knowing she got it. We had no idea that each of us bought the shirt.”

But Jenner understands why the internet assumed she was wearing West’s top, since hers was cropped so much. “I got mine tailored a bit so it does look like I’m wearing her miniature shirt,” the star laughs.

Once she spotted West wearing the top, Jenner had a feeling everyone would “freak out” when they saw her wearing it, too.

“I saw her wearing it and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I have that shirt.’ I predicted all this, like it’s literally going to freak people out that I am wearing that shirt,” Jenner says. “I ended up wearing it really thinking I’m a crazy person. Honestly, I should have lied and said it was North’s shirt because that would be hysterical!”

She continues with a laugh: “Set the record straight. No, it was my own shirt.”

Even though Jenner’s top didn’t actually come from West’s closet, she says she does already admire her style.

“I would borrow clothes from North,” the supermodel says. “She is stylish. She dresses herself, like most of the time she picks out all of her outfits.”
