Kellogg’s Second Climate Conference Kicks Off Next Week

Last year, Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management hosted their first Climate Conference, attracting 250 participants with the collective goal of fighting against climate change.

The second edition kicks off April 10 with the theme, “Leading the Charge: Redefining Business Strategy for a Changing Climate.” Attendees will discover strategies for becoming more climate-capable leaders from those out in the field. Guest speakers include leaders from Coca-Cola, JP Morgan, and Boston Consulting Group.

Student organizers hope to replicate the success of last year’s conference, says Lucianna Shinye, MBA and VP of marketing on the conference leadership team.

“We have a large number of students who are really excited about sustainability and climate, and we want to bring these like-minded individuals together,” says Nandita Baloo, MBA and conference co-chair. “We are trying to increase our reputation as a place for sustainability, for interested MBA students to come and explore this area. The goal of the conference is to really reflect that.”

The conference is designed for a broad audience with differing levels of understanding on climate issues – ranging from experts in the field to those with little to no experience in energy and sustainability.

WHAT’S ON THE AGENDA

Organizers are expecting around 300 attendees this year. The morning will be dedicated to education and will feature speakers discussing the energy transition, carbon capture and removal, financing the climate revolution, and decarbonizing transportation. There will also be a networking session.

In the afternoon, Baloo says they’ll talk about what solutions look like now. The middle of the day will be dedicated to breakout sessions with speakers in niche areas. All will hear from speakers on the role of government and policy when it comes to decarbonization, AI & Energy, food and agriculture, biodiversity and community resilience, and climate tech.

“The goal is to have these experts go through these topics in a lot of detail,” says Baloo.

After identifying some interest areas as a participant, everyone will come together to think about mobilizing everything they’ve learned and bringing it back to the classroom and their workplaces.
