Kellogg’s plant to close, affecting 142 workers

ROSSVILLE, Tenn. — A Kellogg’s food processing plant in Fayette County will close this year, affecting 142 workers, the state’s labor department says.

The company notified the state Tuesday that the Kellanova Company Eggo Plant on Morrison Road will begin layoffs on June 1, with all separations complete by November 30.

The closure is permanent.

One resident shocked by the news is Monica Houston.

Houston has done business in Rossville for decades and is the owner of Small Town Boutique and a salon near the food processing plant.

“Just kinda shocked because Kellogg’s is like a staple to Rossville,” Houston said.

Kellanova Media Relations said by email that the Rossville plant was underutilized, and production will be moved to other frozen breakfast manufacturing locations.

“While this is the right thing to do for the business, it is never easy when people are losing jobs, and we are committed to assisting our employees with resources and support,” the company stated.

The Greater Memphis Local Workforce Development Area rapid response team, employed by the Greater Memphis Chamber, has been notified to coordinate services with the company and employees.

The hope now is that the spot where the Kellogg’s is can be replaced with another company that can provide jobs that pay well.

“I just hope something comes there that can offer jobs just like that (Kellogg’s) did for the community,” Houston said.
