Keith Lamont Scott’s Family Demands Public Release Of Shooting Footage

The family of Keith Lamont Scott, the Charlotte man fatally gunned down by police on Tuesday (Sept. 20), is calling for transparency after viewing footage of the 43-year-old’s death. At least one witness spotted a book in Scott’s hands, but police officers claim that the father of seven was armed with a gun.

“It is impossible to discern from the videos what, if anything, Mr. Scott is holding in his hands,” the family’s attorney Justin Bamberg said of the tape, which has left the family with more questions than answers.

They have since urged for public release of the footage although Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney has no plans to honor their request until the investigation is complete.

“I never said ‘full transparency,'” Putney said in a news conference on Thursday (Sept. 22). “I said, ‘transparency,’ and transparency is in the eye of the beholder.”
