Around 7,000 vehicles, including 2,000 trucks, pass through the corridor daily. KDOT has spent the past 2 years gathering public input and feedback as well as preliminary designs for the project, which will include:

  • Relocating the US 54/US 83 intersection which will include realignment of U.S. 83 to improve the angle of the intersection, and new traffic control signals for the junction.

  • U.S. 54 will separate before 8th Street into a 4-lane expressway directed around Garrettsville to the southeast before reconnecting with the existing 4-lane highway.

KDOT says the project still needs approvals and inclusion in the IKE Construction Pipeline before any formal work can begin. Once selected, the department will release a timeline for when construction may begin.
