Man arrested after SWAT standoff at Niles St store

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man who allegedly barricaded himself inside a Niles Street store in East Bakersfield has been taken into custody.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect ran inside the Fast Stop Market at the corner of Niles and Virginia streets after leaving a reported stolen vehicle. Multiple sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene.

Heavily armed deputies could be seen surrounding the building. They eventually entered the store to search for the suspect. The man was later seen being led out of the store by deputies.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, officials said.
