KCPD seeks public’s help after shots fired on Country Club Plaza

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police are asking for help identifying people who could be connected to the shots fired on April 6 at the Country Club Plaza.

In an interview with reporters Friday, Kansas City Police Department Sergeant Phil DiMartino said potentially hundreds of people were on the Plaza that Saturday evening.

“Several of these individuals were observed firing guns,” he said.

He also said several of the other people who didn’t shoot that evening were also armed with guns.

KCPD is asking for help identifying the people and the cars in the pictures below:

“I don’t know the exact ages on these individuals, but you can look at the pictures, you can see for yourself, they’re young,” DiMartino said.

DiMartino says the gun violence problem plaguing the city’s young people is going to take more than just KCPD to fix.

“What you’re going to see moving forward on the Plaza is extra patrols, directed enforcement,” he said. “You’re also going to see some community resources. Our community engagement division is out there every weekend, and they will be out there every weekend moving forward.”

If you can identify the people or car in the photos, contact KCPD’s Assault Squad at 816-234-5227 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

The shots left Shake Shack with shot-out windows and cars with bullet holes.

DiMartino had some advice for parents and their kids who are involved in conflict.

“Walk away. Walk away from the incident. Nothing is worth gunfire,” he continued. “Nothing is worth someone losing a life or an innocent person getting struck by gunfire.”

The details of what led up to the incident earlier this month are currently unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. According to police, there were no injuries.
