‘People are unsettled’: Second KC homicide reported half mile from first homicide Saturday

Kansas City police responded to a second homicide Saturday about an hour after a man was killed less than one mile away.

Officers were called just before 6 p.m. to the area of Olive Street and East 37th Street on reports of a shooting, according to Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at East 38th Street and Olive Street. She was unresponsive and declared dead at the scene.

The homicide was reported about seven blocks from East 39th Street and South Benton Avenue, where another homicide had been reported earlier Saturday afternoon.

Foreman said the killings appeared unrelated.

“People are unsettled,” she said. “Two people from our city have died today. And those are families, friends, neighbors, that are hurting and about the only thing that we can do is try to bring them some resolution.”

This is the 89th homicide reported in Kansas City during 2022, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes police shootings.
