KC police respond to homicide reported in area of East 39th Street and South Benton

A man was reported dead Saturday afternoon in Kansas City.

Police were called around 5 p.m. to the area of East 39th Street and South Benton Avenue on reports of gunshots, according to Captain Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman for the department.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying near the sidewalk who was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was unresponsive and emergency medical crews declared him dead at the scene.

Two blocks of East 39th Street were blocked off in both directions, from Agnes Avenue to Chestnut Avenue, as police investigated the scene.

Police also responded to a second homicide reported Saturday about seven blocks away in the area of Olive Street and East 37th Street.

This is the 88th homicide reported in Kansas City during 2022, according to data tracked by The Star.
