KC Pet Project called to middle school for missing alligator

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KC Pet Project’s Animal Services Division is on scene Thursday at Lakeview Middle School in Kansas City, working to locate a missing alligator that was brought to the school by a petting zoo.

Officers were notified of the missing alligator Thursday afternoon. The alligator is approximately 14″ long and had its mouth taped shut.

KC Pet Project said the alligator was part of a petting zoo exhibit by an external company that was brought to the school as part of an end-of-year celebration and was last seen on the site around 11 a.m.

KC Pet Project said the school did not obtain an animal shows permit from our Animal Services Division for the petting zoo, which is required per Chapter 14 of the city code.

Officers are currently searching for the animal at the site of the school, and any information regarding the missing animal can be called in to the Animal Services Division at 816-683-1373 or submitted online here.
