KC Mediterranean spot with ‘best shawarma in the city’ is expanding to a 2nd location

A Parlor food hall tenant is set to expand beyond the Crossroads. Sido’s, a Mediterranean food concept, plans to open a second location in North Kansas City’s Iron District.

“It’s looking like mid-March,” said owner Abbaas Abu Zareefeh. “We love the atmosphere up there, with the outdoor seating. And I want my kids to learn how to run businesses and keep their grandpa’s legacy alive.”

Three of Abu Zareefeh’s sons work at Sido’s, which is a Palestinian word for grandpa, he said. His father — their grandfather — left what was then Palestine in 1948 for Jordan, where he owned a restaurant from 1959 to 2010. Sido’s food is inspired by his recipes, which he taught to Abu Zareefeh, who worked there growing up.

The menu features shish kebabs, gyros, baba ghanoush, falafel, hummus nachos and shawarma, among other items.

“I believe we have the best shawarma in the city,” Abu Zareefeh said. “It’s the real stuff. It tastes like you’re sitting in Jordan somewhere.”

The Parlor location will keep its same hours — closed Monday — but Iron District will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Iron District food vendors typically close in the winter, but Abu Zareefeh said they plan to stay open this coming winter, offering curbside pickup and DoorDash and UberEats deliveries.
