The White Sox signed just one player to a multiyear contract this off season, and he didn’t even play in the big leagues in 2023. Erick Fedde led the Korean Baseball Organization in wins, era and strikeouts, winning league MVP and best pitcher honors. It rejuvenated the former first round pick’s career after six uneven seasons with the Washington Nationals and earned the 31-year-old a two-year, $15 million dollar deal with the Sox.

“There comes a time where you have to look yourself in the mirror and make some big changes,” Fedde said. “I wasn’t having the success I was really hoping for and wanting, and I decided to make that move out here to Arizona, baseball mecca, and really figure some things out and make some significant changes. And going to Korea was one of those places I had a chance to throw over 175 innings and a place where I could really work on my new things and that gave me an opportunity and led me here where I’m excited to get a second chance to prove myself.”

Fedde sat down with WGN’s Josh Frydman to discuss more about why the White Sox are the right fit for that second chance, and outlined the specific pitch changes he made that helped him star overseas
