Kathy Griffin has revealed she is in hospital with “unbearably painful” symptoms similar to those suffered by people with Covid-19.

The comedian uploaded a series of photos to Instagram showing herself in hospital, along with a screenshot of a Tweet by US President Donald Trump, in which he claims the US has done more testing for Covid-19 than any other country.

“He’s lying,” she wrote. “I was sent to the #COVID19 isolation ward room in a major hospital ER from a separate urgent care facility after showing UNBEARABLY PAINFUL symptoms.

“The hospital couldn’t test me for #coronavirus because of CDC (Pence task force) restrictions,” she said. “#TESTTESTTEST”.

Griffin is wearing a face mask in one of the photos, with the other shows her hospital room.

Actress Teri Hatcher wished Griffin a speedy recovery, commenting: “Sending you strength and love!!!"

Griffin’s hospitalisation comes one week after she revealed her mother had passed away at the age of 99.

“My Mom, the one and only, Maggie Griffin, passed away today,” she wrote on Twitter.

“I am gutted. My best friend. I’m shaking. I won’t ever be prepared.

“I’m so grateful you guys got to be part of her life. You knew her. You loved her. She knew it.

“Oh, and OF COURSE she went on St Patrick’s Day,” she finished.
