Kate Middleton Appears at Royal Ascot in Chic High-Neck White Lace

Last year, the Duchess of Cambridge attended her very first Royal Ascot, which is essentially an extremely fancy horse race, and a quite high-stakes one at that, as it is “Britain’s most valuable race meeting” (with $9.33 million at stake). The event is a favorite of the Queen’s, and Kate’s attendance last year drew much attention, as her outfit—a white lace Dolce & Gabbana dress—was heralded as an appropriately sophisticated and summery choice (she matched it with a white fascinator).

Well, this year Kate made a return appearance, and . . . if you thought you were in fact looking at a picture of her at last year’s Royal Ascot, it would be understandable. This is a very similar outfit! In fact, this year’s white lace is courtesy of Alexander McQueen. And yes, this version has a high-neck situation (the official fashion terminology for it) which will at least give you a chance of differentiating it on the “Kate Middleton looks” collage you have plastered across the inside of your apartment. (Both years, Kate wore a badge with her title on it, since, you know, it’s not like she is one of the most recognizable people in the U.K. or anything.)

The Queen wore “vivid green”—as the Daily Mail calls it—and not blue, which had been the favored color according to bookies (yes, people in the U.K. bet on the color of the outfit the Queen will wear to an outdoor horse event).

We are going to leave you with this pretty entertaining series of shots of Sophie, Countess of Wessex, nearly falling on Kate in her carriage (yes, you ride a carriage to this thing, what did you expect?). Look how amused Kate is!
