Kate Mara vs. a Fast-Growing Problem in Mysterious 'Morgan': Watch Thriller's First Trailer

Kids are nothing but trouble—or, at least, you can excuse corporate troubleshooter Kate Mara and her researcher comrades for feeling that way after the debut trailer for Morgan (watch it above), the horror effort coming this fall from producer Ridley Scott and his first-time director son, Luke.

Little is revealed in the clip, but much unholy nightmarishness is suggested via ominous shots of a facility in light-flickering shambles—a locale that recalls the unsettling environments of the elder Scott’s Alien—and hushed narration that fills in details about the story’s basic premise. Mara’s investigator has been hired to look into an accident at a top-secret lab where researchers have been studying a girl with extraordinary abilities named Morgan. Spied only from a distance in a hooded sweatshirt, Morgan appears to inspire both fascination and fear in her guardians. In the set of matching shots of Morgan and Kate Mara that close out the trailer, it’s clear everyone has good reason to be terrified of this rapidly developing prodigy, who achieved self-sufficiency at six months of age, and is prone to some rather destructive tantrums.

Like the best teasers, Morgan’s initial look only hints at the madness it has in store for audiences, though we do know that Mara’s cast mates will include Narcos’ Boyd Holbrook, Toby Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rose Leslie, and Paul Giamatti. The film arrives in theaters on Sept. 2, 2016.
