Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian may use the same decorator, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, to help furnish their lavish homes, but their interior styles couldn’t be more opposite.
Bullard describes Kourtney’s mansion as “sophisticated but family-friendly,” while Khloe is more romantic with her home decor. “Our tastes are very specific and completely different. When we go furniture shopping, I stand there tapping my foot while Kourtney shows me modern pieces,” Khloe says in the March issue of Architectural Digest. “Then we head somewhere full of exotic, beautiful things and all she can say is, ‘I like nothing here.’”
The sisters let the publication inside their homes, which are located around the corner from one another in a private neighborhood in Calabasas, California. Both reality purchased their houses from other celebrities. Kourtney resides in a 11,500 square-foot, Tuscan-style home that she purchased from former NFL pro Keyshawn Johnson, and Khloe’s 10,000 square-foot, Mediterranean-style house used to belong to Justin Bieber.
While Kourtney’s home is focused around the comfort of her three children, Khloe’s bachelorette lifestyle allows for a huge closet. The 31-year-old reality star actually combined two bedrooms to create her closet that is organized by both color and style. “I don’t have kids, so why not?” she quips.
Khloe enjoys a fusion of “Moroccan, Turkish and Middle Eastern” styles in her home, but Kourtney admitted that she was initially “afraid of color.”
“When you have kids, you can’t be so stringent,” she says. “Martyn was able to introduce bright pops in a way I can handle.”
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars credit their envy-worthy homes to their parents. “My mom [Kris Jenner] has always had a vision for our houses – she taught us the joy of interior design,” Kourtney says. “And I have vivid memories of my dad [Robert Kardashian Sr.’s] closet which was always immaculate. My sisters and I are perfectionists because we were brought up that way.”
“I was very hands-on in the design process,” Khloe adds. “I’m obsessed with details, so I can be a bit controlling, but it’s only because I’m genuinely curious.”
