Kanye West tells campaign rally he asked Kim Kardashian to have an abortion while pregnant with first child
Kanye West tearfully revealed during a campaign event in South Carolina Sunday that he had urged Kim Kardashian to have an abortion when his wife was pregnant with their first child, North.
“She had the pills in her hand,” the rapper, 43, said during his rambling speech at the Exquis Event Center in North Charleston. He told the crowd that God told him, “if you f — k with my vision I’m going to f — k with yours.”
Now, knowing 7-year-old North, he is aghast, he said.
“I almost killed my daughter,” he said, later adding, “No more plan B, plan A.”
West showed up to his first presidential campaign rally in protective gear on Sunday, sporting a vest labeled “Security” and with “2020” shaved into his hair, as he addressed gun control, opioids, abortion and economic equality, among other topics.
A couple of hundred tightly packed but mostly masked people were in the room, ABC News reported.
All told, he spoke for about an hour, wrapping up by taking questions from the audience as to what change they’d like to see, according to ABC News.
At one point during the rally in South Carolina, he briefly left the stage, and a heckler was escorted out.
West praised Kardashian for standing up to him and said that he knew people in their 50s who “did not have that child” and now regretted not getting to be parents.
“So even if my wife were to divorce me after this speech, she brought North into this world,” he said. “She stood up and protected that child.”
He said his father had also wanted West himself to be aborted.
“My mom saved my life. My dad wanted to abort me,” he said, nearly breaking down. “There would have been no Kanye West. Because my dad was too busy.”
“We love you Kanye,” someone in the crowd said.
At the same time, he said he does not advocate banning abortion.
“In 2020 abortion should be legal,” he said, later alluding to a potential option in which “everybody that has a baby, gets a million dollars or something.”
He also added that raising a child requires much more than money.
“It’s not simply a money situation,” he said. “It’s a village situation. It’s a heart situation.”
West also went into gun control, saying that it’s important to have weapons in case the country is invaded — in which case, “what do you think is going to happen?” he asked.
“Guns don’t kill people,” he said, as the crowd joined in with, “People kill people.”
