Kansas man dies in weekend ATV crash

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A man is dead following an ATV accident near Great Bend.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the Arkansas River bed, near the diversion dam south of Dundee, for the report of an ATV/RTV accident.

Wilbert Sanko, 37, of Great Bend, was reportedly driving a 2014 Polaris RZR in the riverbed when it entered into a skid and flipped over, pinning Sanko underneath.

The sheriff’s office says a witness immediately began first aid until EMS arrived at the scene. Sanko was transported to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend where he later died from his injuries.

His 33-year-old passenger was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The Barton County Sheriff’s Office says neither man was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the crash.

The Kansas Highway Patrol assisted Barton County with the crash and investigation.
