Kansas City Chiefs fans want to honor 1 man before their playoff game: Ryan Fitzpatrick

Kansas City Chiefs fans couldn’t be more grateful for Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The veteran quarterback led the Dolphins to a 27-24 victory over the New England Patriots that helped the Chiefs secure the No. 2 seed in the AFC and a first-round bye. While the Chiefs enjoy the week off, the Patriots will now have to face the red hot Tennessee Titans Saturday evening.

To celebrate Fitzmagic, a fan created a petition to have him bang the drum at Arrowhead Stadium ahead of the Chiefs’ first playoff game. As of Friday evening, the petition has accumulated more than 37,000 signatures.

Fitzpatrick was the driving force behind the Dolphins’ upset. With the Patriots up late in the fourth quarter, the quarterback drove Miami 75 yards down the field and found tight end Mike Gesicki for the game-winning touchdown. He finished the day with 320 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Although it’s unclear whether Fitzpatrick will actually join the Chiefs at Arrowhead, the effects of the late-season seed change will be seen soon.

The Pats haven’t played during wild-card weekend since 2009. With Tom Brady actually starting to look like a 42-year-old quarterback, the Patriots truly needed the rest. Now, they’ll have to stop a team that has the league-leading rusher, a quarterback that’s playing the best football of his career and won seven of their last 10 games.

Despite being favored against the Titans, the Pats will have a tough road to Miami. If the Patriots win, they’ll have to take the trip to Arrowhead. There, if 37,000-plus people get their wish, they’ll be greeted by an unexpected face: Ryan Joseph Fitzpatrick.
