Kanawha County man dies after stabbing woman multiple times and pointing a gun at deputies

CABIN CREEK, WV (WVNS) — One man is dead after stabbing a woman in the Cabin Creek area of Kanawha County.

According to a press release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 deputies investigated reports of a stabbing at 100 Gatewood Court in Cabin Creek around 1:48 a.m.

Metro 911 Dispatchers received information that a man was beating a woman and that the woman was also stabbed. Once Deputies arrived on scene, they discovered an adult woman with critical injuries from multiple stab wounds at a neighbors house, and that the suspect was in his house at Gatewood Court.

The woman received medical treatment from Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority Medics, and was taken to CAMC General Hospital Trauma Unit for surgery.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies were involved in a standoff with the man, who not only refused to surrender, but was also thought to be in possession of a gun. The deputies fired at the suspect after he pointed a gun out of the window at them.

Deputies believed that the suspect was hit, however he remained in the house. Once the deputies were inside the house, they discovered that the man was dead.

Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Section Investigators were on scene, and no deputies were injured in the incident.

No names or further information was released due to the ongoing status of the investigation. According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, there is not a threat to the public, and information will be released as it becomes available.
