Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief David Boysen said he understands people fear retaliation and are hesitant to talk to police. However, there are other ways they can help the investigation. In many cases, they only need people to share videos from Ring or surveillance cameras.

“A lot of times, we can solve a case based on a video of the shooting. We don’t need eyewitness testimony if we have it on video. We are getting a lot of cases solved through people sharing their videos with us. We want the message to be if you commit a crime in Kalamazoo, you are going to get caught. People might not come forward as an eyewitness, but someone is going to share a video, and that is all we need,” Boysen said.

It’s unknown what led to the shooting and if any arrests have been made in the case.

Anyone with information about the shooting to call the KDPS Criminal Investigation Division at 269.337.8139 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
