Juvenile male arrested after stabbing at Mitchell's Hitchcock Park on Wednesday

May 23—MITCHELL — A juvenile male has been arrested for his role in a stabbing at Hitchcock Park on Wednesday night in Mitchell.

The Mitchell Department of Public Safety said on Thursday morning that a call regarding a stabbing at the Hitchcock Park basketball courts was reported around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22 regarding a male that had been stabbed in the chest.

"Officers arrived on the scene (and) they quickly identified the victim and suspect," a Mitchell Department of Public Safety press release said. "The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Witnesses on the scene advised that the altercation between the victim and suspect occurred due to an argument that occurred during a game of basketball."

A juvenile suspect was taken into custody and is being held in South Dakota Department of Corrections custody.

The Mitchell Department of Public Safety reported the victim of the stabbing was Kyle Foote, 25, of Mitchell. Foote received medical attention at the scene and was transported to Avera Queen of Peace hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In addition to Mitchell police and EMS, the South Dakota Highway Patrol and Davison County Sheriff's Office also responded to the incident.
