Juvenile Court to reopen in temporary buildings following emergency closure

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Juvenile Court and Clerk’s Office will reopen in temporary buildings on Monday following an emergency closure due to asbestos, mold and lead paint.

The clerk’s office will be open at noon on Monday in temporary buildings, while court hearings will be heard in front of the building beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m.

The building on Adams Avenue was closed indefinitely after inspections revealed possible health concerns inside the building. After an inspection on April 24, the Juvenile Clerk’s Office was notified of an emergency Maintenance Closure until remediation is done.

Child support, purge payments, bond payments, garnishments, restitution, and all other secure payments through the Juvenile Court Clerk’s Office can be done at 201 Poplar Avenue on the 3rd floor.

Court filings can be processed at either 1075 Mullins Station Road in building W2 or 157 Poplar Avenue.

According to a press release, victims’ compensation can be requested at the Mullins Station location, which will only accept credit or debit cards.

Hearings in front of the Juvenile Court will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Non-Custodial Parent’s Office and child support contempt hearings will be held at 201 Poplar Avenue on the 4th floor.

Juvenile Court’s emergency closure could cause case backups

Delinquency out-of-custody hearings will be held at 140 Adams Avenue on the 3rd floor, and all in-custody Juvenile Court hearing will be held at the Youth Justice and Education Center located at 3420 Old Getwell Road.

The Shelby County Juvenile Court’s Protective Services Department and Traffic Department will also be located at 1075 Mullins Station Road in building W2.

The Shelby County Chief Administrative Office says that the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will be providing security at all locations. Temporary hours of operation will be Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
