Justin Timberlake's Super Bowl halftime show reminded everyone of something really specific
Justin Timberlake's halftime show felt really, really familiar – and not just because he played the hits.
Hmm ... what could it be?

This is the longest Gap commercial I’ve ever seen. Had to cost them a fortune. #SuperBowl

That gap ad was lit. When’s the halftime show? #sb52

Oh.
But perhaps even more brutal are the folks who didn't find this particular Gap ad to be up to par.
In the 2000 halftime show my mom was so upset that Phil Collins dressed “like a gap commercial slob” and I just understood that feeling as I watched JT perform

If this was a Gap commercial he’d be a bit better dressed, no?

Aw, cheer up, JT. Not everyone thought your halftime show was a Gap commercial.
This is the longest Old Navy Ad I've ever watched #PepsiHalftime

Y’all not gonna sit here and tell me this ain’t just a long ass Old Navy back to school sale commercial

As unfortunate as this for JT, it's a huge win for Gap. This company shot a series of ads so distinctive, so memorable, so popular, people are still referencing it two decades later.
Now that's branding.
