“Just turn around, take a little longer route,” Carthage Fire Chief warns against driving in flood waters

CARTHAGE, Mo. — With more rain on the way, Carthage firefighters are asking for your help.

Carthage Fire Chief Ryan Huntley said the city has been fortunate, so far. He said flooding in the city has minor to this point, mostly related to runoff and clogged drainage.

They have had a couple of calls about motorists who’ve driven into high water, and had their cars stall on them and situations like those are where they can help first responders the most.

“Play it safe. It’s not just putting you in jeopardy, its also putting our guys and all of that that have to come and get you eventually in jeopardy as well, so we just ask that if there is water, just turn around, take a little longer route. We would appreciate it, and I’m sure that all of your loved ones would as well,” said Chief Huntley.

Chief Huntley added they’ll continue to monitor areas were they frequently see high water over the next few days.
