‘Just shocked’: Kid stuck in chimney from waist down

WHITMAN, Mass. (WJW) — A 10-year-old boy had to be rescued from his own chimney after he decided to climb inside of it last week, the Whitman Fire Department reported.

Firefighters received an emergency call to a Massachusetts residence on Wednesday, April 10, around 4 p.m. The crew climbed on top of the roof and were able to safely pry him out of the top of the chimney.

The boy, who was stuck from the waist down, was not injured, firefighters reported.

He reportedly climbed out of a second floor window and got inside the chimney. The boy’s father, who was at work when the incident occurred, told Boston’s WCVB that his other son called him to say the boy was wedged into the chimney. That’s when he called 911.

“I was just shocked when I looked up and saw him hanging out of that chimney,” a neighbor named Karen Boyd told the TV station. “It’s not like I could catch him if he fell. I mean, he was very high up on that roof.”

It was not immediately clear why the boy got into the chimney in the first place.
