Jussie Smollett Reportedly Staged Attack After Threatening Letter Didn’t Get Enough Attention
Jussie Smollett reportedly came up with the plan to have two men attack him after a threatening letter he received a week earlier failed to get a bigger reaction, according to a new report.
CBS 2 in Chicago reports Smollett was upset about the lack of reaction to the letter he received at Chicago’s Cinespace Studios, where “Empire” is filmed. The outlet quotes a source as saying, “When the letter didn’t get enough attention, he concocted the staged attack.”
The Osundairo brothers, who are suspected of carrying out the alleged attack, gave a statement to the outlet, saying, “We are not racist. We are not homophobic and we are not anti-Trump. We were born and raised in Chicago and are American citizens.”
The FBI is handling the investigation into the letter. As The Blast reported, whether or not the sender of the letter did so as part of a hoax, they could still be charged with a crime and face up to five years in prison.
In a statement released on Monday morning, Smollett’s rep, Anne Kavanagh said, “There are no plans for Jussie Smollett to meet with Chicago police today. Any news reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate. Smollett’s attorneys will keep an active dialogue going with Chicago police on his behalf. We have no further comment today.”
