A jury has been sworn in for the trial of managers and nursing staff from an East Yorkshire care provider at the centre of neglect claims.

The eight defendants, who worked for Bridlington-based Burlington Care, are due to stand trial at Teesside Crown Court from Thursday.

Chief executive Richard Hoggart is one of four people charged with failure to discharge a duty.

Four further staff members have been charged with wilful neglect.

The firm's director Andrew Hoggart, area manager Lisa Harding and service manager Julie Kirk have also been charged with failure to discharge a duty.

Nurses or carers Kathleen Whatling, Allison Rollins, Claire Mawer and Jacquelin Jackman have all been charged with wilful neglect.

All eight deny the charges against them.

Burlington Care ran several care homes across Yorkshire, including in Hull and Bridlington.

The trial is expected to last for up to 10 weeks.
