Jury deliberations to continue Wednesday in Justin Schuback murder trial

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The jury broke for the day in the Justin Schuback trial Tuesday evening.

Deliberations will resume for this case Wednesday morning.

Jurors began deliberating Tuesday afternoon in the murder trial of Justin Schuback.

The 38-year-old from Old Forge is charged with robbing and killing Robert Baron, owner of Ghigiarelli’s restaurant.

The jury has been deliberating for hours and the fate of Justin Schuback is in their hands.

If convicted he could face life in prison.

The week-long trial was filled with countless hours of testimony. The defense began closing statements Tuesday morning.

Criminal Defense Attorney Bernie Brown presented several questions to the jury.

If Justin Schuback killed Robert Baron, how did he get into the restaurant?

Meanwhile, District Attorney Mark Powell countered to the jury later a robbery and brutal murder took place and, over the course of the trial testimony, showed circumstantial evidence explaining what happened on January 26, 2017.

28/22 News heard from Brown about the trial so far.

“There is this sense of relief I mean obviously it’s been a long year you know preparing and meeting with Justin time and time being able to get to this point is always the climb right I mean you get to this point and you just hand it over to them to the 12 people with trust and believe that justice will be served,” Brown explained.

Powell declined to speak until after the verdict.

Just after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday lawyers were brought back for the judge to present a question.

The jury made two requests:

  • Range To Tower records (RTT)

  • Photo evidence was provided during FBI special agent Michael Sabric’s testimony Monday morning.

At 5:30 p.m., they asked an additional question for counsel, pertaining to the definition of intent.

Schuback is facing first second and third-degree murder, as well as robbery and burglary.
