Jupiter woman, 80, dies when compact car, pickup crash on Indiantown Road in Jupiter Farms

JUPITER FARMS — An 80-year-old Jupiter woman died Sunday night when a compact car and a pickup collided at an intersection along Indiantown Road, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash took place at about 10 p.m. when Catherine Root was northbound in a 2001 Toyota Echo, according to a sheriff's crash report. She drove through an intersection from an access road just west of Jupiter Farms Road and into the path of an eastbound 2010 Ford F-150.

The force of the crash caused the Echo to spin to the northeast, and it struck a guard rail on the north side of Indiantown Road. It pivoted off the guardrail before it came to a final stop against it. Deputies said the woman died at 10:38 p.m. The pickup spun counterclockwise and traveled east until it came to a stop at a turn lane.

No charges are pending against the pickup driver, a 23-year-old Jupiter Farms man, according to PBSO's crash report. He did not sustain injuries.

It was not clear from the PBSO report how fast either vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash. Investigators found no evidence that either driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
