Julien David gets casual for summer

PARIS (AP) — It was daytime streetwear on display for one of menswear fashion's rising stars, Julien David.

The theme of the uber-cool French designer's spring-summer 2014 collection was apparently "Madness." That word showed up as prints on T-shirts, was sewn in in jacquard, and splashed across an outlandish waterproof stadium jacket in orange and dark green.

But the overall message that got across at the Paris show Wednesday was casual and chilled out.

Baggy jumpsuits in cotton were constructed in jacquard, but had an everyday feel to them due to their slouchiness.

Simple sweaters were given a small lift with a motif of an island, a palm tree or a pixellated image of a cap.

In a neat twist, an occasional tie was tucked inside a shirt after the second button, as if to say: "I'm a guy that could get dressed up for the evening, but I'm just too cool."
