Julie Bowen approved of how TV daughter Sarah Hyland flirted with Wells Adams
Sure, she just plays her mom on television — but Julie Bowen has opinions about Sarah Hyland’s boyfriend. Luckily, she’s gotten pretty good vibes thus far, even though she has yet to meet him in person.
After breaking up with ex-boyfriend Dominick Sherwood, Hyland chose to stay single for a bit before connecting with her new boyfriend Wells Adams. As it turns out, the two of them met through Twitter. Hyland watched a season of Bachelor In Paradise that featured past-Bachelorette contestant Adams as the bartender, and couldn’t contain her excitement. “OH MY GOD @WellsAdams IS THE FRIKKIN BARTENDER?! Best. Season. Ever,” she tweeted back in August.
Adams connected back with her, and the flirting began. Eventually, they became official, with Hyland posting a few photos of her new guy on Instagram. After getting backlash for one of the photos, Hyland noted that this relationship was different — and that she had no issues with being open about it. “I do want my privacy. Especially in relationships,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’ve made the mistake in the past on being way too open and talking way too much about them. This time is different. It’s special. And I will share what I [deem] ‘appropriate’ on social media because I still want you all to be updated.”

As a good mom would, Modern Family star Julie Bowen stood up for the pair and thinks their courtship has been nothing short of fantastic.
“She just showed me pictures and the original sort of flirty texts that were very sweet,” Bowen said to Entertainment Tonight. “And there was nothing naked about them so… I’m a little old fashioned and I liked that. I was like, ‘Ooh I like this.’ Because sometimes these days when somebody shows you their phone you’re like, ‘Ahhh!’…This was just normal and cute, and I liked it.”
Bowen noted that as far as their relationship went, she was on the “ground floor of the flirting” — but made it pretty clear that Hyland seems extremely happy.
“He seems lovely, he seems like a really nice guy and he treats her really well. She’s happy as can be,” she said. “That’s all you can want for your daughters, fake or real.”

We think it’s so sweet that the two of them have such a great relationship off-screen, and think that when Bowen gets the chance to meet Adams in person, she’ll be pretty impressed.
