Judge to rule on prosecutor’s request to revoke bond for murder suspect Meagan Jackson

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A judge is expected to rule “in the next few days” on a request by prosecutors to again revoke the bond of a woman accused in the October 2020 killing of a man in Horry County.

Meagan Jackson and Chris Dontell, who was an Horry County deputy coroner at the time, are facing murder charges in the death of Gregory Vincent Rice.

Jackson, the mother of Rice’s four children, had reported him as missing. Rice’s body was found in the Pee Dee River on Nov. 8, 2020, according to authorities who said he had been shot multiple times.

Jackson was out of jail on home detention when she was arrested last month and returned to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center for allegedly leaving her home in Conway to go to an apartment complex in Murrells Inlet.

At a bond hearing Thursday afternoon, prosecutors said Jackson has “flaunted the rules of home detention” and that there have been reports from residents and bartenders who say they have seen Jackson drinking at local bars and visiting private residents’ homes.

Jackson’s attorney said Thursday that they have cooperated with prosecutors and argued that Jackson has already served her time in jail before trial. He argued that she is no threat to the community but acknowledged that Jackson “needs to pay more attention to the specifics.”

She previously had her bond revoked in 2021 after authorities said a GPS tracker showed her at locations where she wasn’t permitted to be based on her bond.

Dontell is scheduled to go on trial on June 24.
