Josh Donaldson calls calves a 'blessing and a curse'

As he swirls in injury and waiver purgatory, a lot of negative things have been said about Josh Donaldson, but he could never be accused of not being self-aware.

In a wide-ranging interview with former Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia, the third baseman jokingly referred to his massive calves as a “blessing and a curse” — a particularly poignant comment considering all the grief they’ve caused him from an injury perspective in recent years.

And if he could take all that troublesome calf muscle and put it somewhere else?

“Definitely the upper body area, probably the upper arm. When God was making me he somehow managed to get me in the calf line twice and missed on the bicep line. Beggars can’t be choosers.”

Josh Donaldson may have played his last game as a Blue Jay, but the situation is murky.

In the interview Donaldson also addressed his ever-changing hair styles, including his current look.

“The Vikings series, which I was a part of the lead guy’s name was Ragnar. Going into the show I was watching it a lot, I was like ‘man I really enjoy his hair, I think I could pull it off.'”

Apparently the constantly shifting styles caught the attention of Blue Jays manager John Gibbons.

“I did cut it last year. Gibby was giving me a hard time about it all year. ‘Oh man you need to grow it back, that’s what people know you as, come on. Grow your hair.’ and I’m like ‘Alright Gibby.’ Two weeks later he was like ‘I thought you said you’re growing your hair back’ and I’m like ‘buddy it doesn’t take two weeks to grow my hair out.'”
