Joseph Gordon-Levitt finally reveals how he feels about “The Dark Knight Rises” ending

If you’re a fan of the popular Batman saga, you likely remember that in The Dark Knight Rises, the film closes with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character Blake finding the Batcave. This heavily implies that Blake (whose real name turns out to be Robin) will rise up to become a hero for another movie. Unfortunately for fans of Gordon-Levitt, however, there were no future films for him to take on this role.

And how does Gordon-Levitt feel about this twist of an ending?

As he tells Cinema Blend, he actually thinks the close of the film was perfect, and he doesn’t feel bad about not taking on the role in a future Batman film.

I know we’re all used to the sort of Marvel movies, which are just kind of endless series, said Gordon-Levitt. “They don’t really have a beginning, middle, and end. But I think [Christopher] Nolan very much thought of that movie as a conclusion, and there’s a theme that runs through all three of those movies that begins in the first movie, runs through the second movie, and it concludes in that moment where he says that Batman is more than a man, Batman is a symbol.

He continued, “And so to have another man other than Bruce Wayne kind of becoming Batman at the end of that trilogy, I think that’s the perfect ending to that story.”

This logic makes a lot of sense. After all, you don’t want to spoil a movie trilogy by adding too much of a good thing. On the bright side, fans of Gordon-Levitt can look forward to his role in the upcoming Snowden film, out September 16th.
