Joplin Regional Community Foundation gives out $130k in checks

JOPLIN, Mo. — Tens of thousands of dollars are going out to support Joplin nonprofits Tuesday.

The Joplin Regional Community Foundation handed out $130,000 in big checks:

  • $30,000 for Watered Gardens for a family housing unit expansion

  • $50,000 went to the Creative Learning Alliance for programming and exhibits

  • $50,000 went to the Joplin Police Department to help fund a new program to hire a social worker who will be based out of JPD

“To really help raise people out of homelessness. get off of drugs and alcohol. get some help with their legal issues. And I think we can really move the community forward as opposed to just going through this revolving door dealing with the symptoms of these issues,” said Chief Richard Pearson, JPD.

“It’s a real trial program but we’re thrilled to death to be a part of a public entity and we are a private nonprofit collaborating. And I think this is very exciting, very new for the Community Foundation of the Ozarks,” said Pete Ramsour, JRCF Affiliate Mgr.

The 2024 grants were focused on addressing child education, homelessness and barriers to work and prosperity.
