Joplin man to stand trial in 'revenge porn' case

May 23—A 49-year-old defendant waived a preliminary hearing Thursday on a charge that he sent pornographic images of a woman to another person, falsely telling the third person that she wished to have sex with both of them at the same time.

Curtis W. Roy, of Joplin, was ordered bound over for trial in Jasper County Circuit Court on a count of nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images. Judge Joseph Hensley set Roy's initial appearance in a trial division for June 18.

Roy was arrested on the charge in June of last year following a Joplin police investigation.

A probable-cause affidavit alleges that Roy sent text messages and pictures to an unnamed witness, including pornographic images of a woman he identified by name and falsely claimed she wished to have sex with both of them.

The woman told police that she never consented to the images being sent to the witness and that she never indicated to Roy that she wished to have any sexual contact with the witness.
