Jon Stewart To Work On Other HBO Projects Following Cancellation

The former host of "The Daily Show" will now continue to work on other projects with HBO, who signed him in November 2015.

The former host of “The Daily Show” Jon Stewart will remain at HBO to work on future projects following the network’s cancellation of a highly anticipated animation project Tuesday.

"HBO and Jon Stewart have decided not to proceed with a short form digital animated project. We all thought the project had great potential, but there were technical issues in terms of production and distribution that proved too difficult given the quick turnaround and topical nature of the material. We’re excited to report that we have some future projects together, which you will be hearing about in the near future," HBO announced in a released statement.

The comedian will now continue to work on other projects with HBO, who signed him in November 2015. Additionally, Stewart has also been making guest appearances on late night television, including regular spots on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” the New York Times reported.

The cancellation of the HBO animation project due to “technical issues” comes after the project missed its initial release deadline of early 2016. HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys later said in July 2016 the program would start by September or October, CNN reported.

However, he had also said it was “a big endeavor” taken on by Stewart who was looking to get content out more than once a day.

"He's establishing an animation studio because he wants to get material out multiple times a day," Bloys said. "And the idea is it will be an animated parody of a cable news network, with kind of an Onion-like portal."

The scrapping of the plan now means a delay, at the very least, of what was called “the next phase of Stewart’s groundbreaking career,” CNN reported.

While his time on regular television ended with his final August 2015 anchoring of “The Daily Show”, he has appeared occasionally to talk about ongoing political issues.

On January 31, he was back with an appearance on CBS’ “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” His focus on that occasion was to critique the first 10 days of Donald Trump’s presidency, according to a Variety report.

“We have never faced this before: Purposeful, vindictive chaos,” Stewart said during the appearance.

Stewart also serves as an executive producer on Colbert’s show, according to the New York Times.

His late-night return, however, was not limited to just one appearance. He was back February 27 on Colbert’s CBS show, emerging from under the desk while Colbert was criticizing the White House for reportedly blocking many media outlets from a press briefing.

After taking over, Stewart then gave the media a direct message over its supposed break-up with President Donald Trump.

Despite returning to late-night every now and again, Stewart does not miss it. In a 2015 interview with CBS, he said, “Because I feel like I completed it, you know? When you feel like you complete a project to the best of your ability, when you've done the best that you think you're able to do,” CNN reported.
