Jon Jones passes polygraph test to prove he didn't knowingly take banned substance
Jon Jones refuses to let his failed drug test go without a fight.
The former UFC light heavyweight champion took a polygraph test last month in an effort to prove that he did not knowingly take a banned substance prior to his UFC 214 knockout victory against Daniel Cormier. The results are in and, according to MMA Fighting, Jones passed the polygraph.
Jones took the test on his own free will on Dec. 7 at the PGP Polygraph & Interviewing Service in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The former champion has maintained his innocence ever since it was announced last August that he failed a drug test the day before his light heavyweight title fight with Cormier. Jones would go on to score a third-round knockout but was stripped after it was revealed that he failed the test. The result of the fight was overturned and the light heavyweight title was awarded back to Cormier — who happens to be defending that very title against Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 220 on Jan. 20.
Since then, Jones has refuted that he knowingly took any performing-enhancing drugs prior to his fight with Cormier. He still hasn’t been handed an official punishment by the CSAC or USADA. Although he was initially provisionally suspended by USADA, he’ll meet with the CSAC next month for a hearing.
Jones has never lost the UFC light heavyweight title in the Octagon. He has been stripped twice for testing positive for banned substances. In 2016 he failed a drug test prior to UFC 200 and was removed from his main event fight with Daniel Cormier days before the event took place.
