JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Johnson City Commission on Thursday night approved a consulting firm to conduct a study of the John Sevier Center and Downtown Centre.

The study by Hunden Partners, which would not cost the city more than $175,000, would determine the best use for both sites in the downtown area.

Economic Development Director Alicia Summers and Assistant City Manager Randy Trivette each voiced their support for the city to enter into a contract with Hunden Partners.

While responding to a question from Johnson City Vice Mayor Aaron T. Murphy, Summers said Hunden Partners works with a network of developers that could result in the John Sevier Center quickly being put to the determined best use.

Murphy also requested that a timeline be provided for the John Sevier Center study and further phases.

Phase one would focus on the highest and best uses and market for the facilities. Phase two would include developer solicitation and selection services.
