Some people become legends by winning, and some people become legends by quitting.

At least, that's what John Oliver hopes will happen with Donald Trump.

On Last Week Tonight, the host presented a plan to help seal Trump's place in history, not as the bright orange, toupeed demagogue, but as a powerful outsider who created a entire campaign entirely engineered to expose the deep flaws in our political system.

Not only would Trump never be president, we might actually get some policy change out of it.

“Just think about how triumphant it would feel to say on national television: ‘I openly ran on a platform of impossibly ignorant proposals steeped in racial bigotry and nobody stopped me,'" Oliver said.

If the triumph of a "gotcha" speech wasn't enough, Oliver also ran a clip of Trump saying how "embarrassing" it would be to lose to Hillary Clinton. If anything, dropping out of the race claiming he never meant to be President at all would also save some face.

"He's either hitting bottom to which he'll rebound to victory, or it's the beginning of the end," Oliver said.

Instead, Oliver's plan allows Trump to continue the savvy businessman he is and protect his self interests.

"If you drop out in order to teach America a lesson, you would not be a loser, you would be a legend. There'd be a federal holiday in your honor and it would be called 'Guy Who Decided Not To Be President's Day'. And it would be the greatest day ever," Oliver said.

Let's see if Donald takes the deal.
