John Oliver Offers Trump His Emmy to Accept Election Results
On Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, John Oliver took on Donald Trump’s unwillingness to accept election results if he doesn’t win the presidency. In response to Trump’s comment that he would keep the public in “suspense” as to whether he’d accept defeat, Oliver said, “What do you mean, you’ll keep us in suspense? This is a presidential election, not an American Idol results show.”
Knowing that Donald Trump went on a Twitter rant in 2013, complaining the Emmys were rigged against him, Oliver decided to help soften the blow. Oliver offered a bet to Trump that the candidate would win the election, so that if Trump lost, he would at least win the bet.
“And as for the stakes of the bet, I have something I know that you want,” Oliver said while pulling out his Emmy. He continued, “She’s so small and so shiny. You don’t even have to take her furniture shopping!”
Last Week Tonight airs Sundays at 11 p.m. on HBO.
