Here's some perspective. The below are McCain's own words from his book The Restless Wave:
"I’m freer than colleagues who will face the voters again. I can speak my mind without fearing the consequences much. And I can vote my conscience without worry.”
What that entails is he rarely, if ever, voted his conscience. All sincere condolences to his family for their loss but by his own words McCain was the very embodiment of the career politician that makes so many people, both left and right, want term limits for members of Congress.
LIBERALS are DIP$HITS
John McCain was training in his AD-6 Skyraider on an overcast Texas morning in 1960 when he slammed into Corpus Christi Bay and sheared the skin off his plane's wings. McCain recounted the accident decades later in his autobiography. "The engine quit while I was practicing landings," he wrote. But an investigation board at the Naval Aviation Safety Center found no evidence of engine failure. The 23-year-old junior lieutenant wasn't paying attention and erred in using "a power setting too low to maintain level flight in a turn," investigators concluded. The crash was one of three early in McCain's aviation career in which his flying skills and judgment were faulted or questioned by Navy officials.
Ya lets celebrate this “Maverick”. Who was born into 2 genrations of navy admirals and bravely went against the grain to join the navy and via nepotism chase down the easy lay up of a guaranteed legacy. Then after his service he went all maverick again and dumped his wife to marry a woman worth 100 million dollars to start his political career in the GOP where he bravely stole from the poor to give back to the rich. Yes, he never knew a rich donor he didn’t like and for decades this brave man made the hard choice of enriching the defense contractors and other benfactors of the military industrial complex to ensure the US was in constant wars killing thousands of US service men and millions of civilian casualties all over the middle east. Yes this true patriot made the hard choices of putting money and politics over the lives of others. What a magnificent man.
The left “mourns” Senator McCain because they see him as opposing Trump... If John had been an ardent Trump supporter the “mourning” would have been very different...
Matt Bai talking about perspective. Good one. McCain was no more than a modern day Benedict Arnold. He obstructed his party’s, and this country’s agenda more times than can be counted. He helped his adversaries enact their agenda. He was a liberal mole in the GOP. I never understood why he stayed in the party. Then I realized that he was playing for the other team all along. I think he may have been the inspiration for the word RINO. He was also a war monger, which liberals forgot and forgave as soon as he turned against Trump. Anyone remember Libya? That was his. Liberals will now remember him fondly, though they hated him when he ran for president. I know he will be missed, but not for the right reasons.
it's kind of funny how all the liberals love john mc cain now, after the battles with trump, yet in 2008, there was nary a good word from the liberals .
Blah Blah Blah
I never knew how much democrats loved John McCain until recently. Is this the same McCain from the 2008 election?
I found it amusing that the first 2 words of Matt Bai's eulogy to McCain was 'Donald Trump'.
Wasn't it just a couple years ago the media was splashing a story about McCain playing video games in the Senate. Wonder how many other times they trashed him? Now he's their hero. I respect McCain and some of what he did. But he was not that much different than any other politician. Please. Can't we feel sorry about his death without going overboard about his life?
So all the Democrats who suddenly adore John McCain....how many voted for him in 2008?
John McCain, the embodiment of the establishment and deep state!
I don’t see McCain as a hero. I won’t miss his brand of politics.
