John Boyega Gives Parents A New Home
John Boyega made a rock star purchase for his parents.
On Tuesday, Boyega, 25, graced the red carpet for his latest film “Detroit” at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. The “Star Wars” star was asked about his biggest purchase after he became a household name. “I bought my mom and dad a house! I mean that’s a way to do it,” Boyega told Entertainment Tonight. “You know, I also think that’s giving back to my king and my queen. So that’s what I did.”

Boyega is very close to his parents. In December 2016, “The Circle” star shared a snapshot of him twinning with his dad on Instagram. “Stunting with my daddy,” the actor wrote in the caption. The London-born actor revealed that his Nigerian parents are very proud of his achievements. However, they were never “Star Wars” fanatics.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” star was asked if his parents share his passion for the epic space franchise. “No. My parents are not interested in ‘Star Wars’ whatsoever,” Boyega said. “They’re only interested in ‘The Force Awakens.’ In terms of the rest, they’re like, ‘OK, cool, but you’re not in it.’ They’re all about stakes.”
As for Boyega, he is a huge fan of the franchise even before he joined the cast. He knew its extended universe, comic books and games. He also watched all the movies. In fact, he didn’t need an update when he came on board for the “Star Wars” trilogy involving him because he was fully aware of it.
Boyega is also close to his mom and sister. In another Instagram post, he wrote, “My mum always talks about when she brought me home and this lady in the pic used me as her favourite baby doll for years. Despite that I’m happy to have her by my side wherever I go! #sissylove #Gracethesmooich #akaturtle.”
Boyega’s stint in “Star Wars” made him even more popular. The actor revealed that he also had his “pinch me” moments. “It’s strange because you’ve been working towards the success for so long and to see it manifest, it’s a huge blessing,” he told ET. “But at the same time, a huge responsibility, ‘cause not everybody gets this opportunity.”
