Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are engaged, NBC confirms

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are engaged, an MSNBC spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo News on Thursday.

The engagement of the “Morning Joe” co-hosts was first reported by the New York Post’s Page Six.

According to the report, Scarborough popped the question over the weekend during a trip to the south of France and Monaco, where the couple was celebrating Brzezinski’s 50th birthday.

“Scarborough, 54, got down on one knee and proposed at the scenic Bar Bellini at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, which has a breathtaking moonlit outdoor terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea,” the paper said. Wedding plans have not been set.

In an interview with Vanity Fair published Thursday morning, Scarborough and Brzezinski discussed one wedding idea that they’ve already ruled out:

In January, when they went to visit Donald Trump in the White House just a little more than a week after his inauguration, Scarborough and Brzezinski sat down for lunch with the president, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner, ostensibly to talk to their longtime friend about his first week in office and issues related to women. Once the fish and scalloped potatoes had been served, and special sauces delivered directly to Trump were placed on the table, the couple said that the president came up with an idea: If they planned on getting married, they should consider doing so at Mar-a-Lago or the White House, they recalled. “That’s when Jared interrupted and said, ‘Hey, you know what? I’ve got my license. I could marry you,’” Scarborough said.

According to Scarborough, that’s when Trump snapped from the end of the table, saying: “Why would you marry them? They could have the president of the United States marry them.”

The pair didn’t address the engagement on air Thursday, but what appeared to be an engagement ring was clearly visible on Brzezinski’s ring finger.

Scarborough and Brzezinski’s romance reportedly began last year, following Brzezinski’s divorce from James Hoffer, her husband of 23 years. Scarborough, a former Florida congressman, has been married twice before, most recently to Susan Waren, a former aide to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, from whom he split in 2013. (Brzezinski has two children. Scarborough has four.)

And while “the first couple of cable news” has mostly kept their relationship quiet, they recently opened up in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

“We have a crackling on-air chemistry,” Scarborough told the publication. “And a crackling off-air chemistry, too.”
